Memorial Day Commemoration
The Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Memorial Association cordially invites everyone to attend this year’s annual Memorial Day observance at the Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Monument.
Mayor Bill de Blasio and Ray Mabus, Secretary of the Navy will speak & lay a wreath at the portal of the historic memorial.
Other guest speakers paying tribute will be:
Manhattan Borough President Gale A. Brewer,
and noted Military Historian David J. Ulbrich, Ph.D.
will deliver the keynote Memorial Address.
This year’s program commemorates the 70th Anniversary of the End of WWII, and honors those who have served our country in all wars. Also speaking will be Rear Admiral Linda Fagan,
Commander, First Coast Guard District. In conjunction with New York Fleet Week, active duty Sailors, Marines and Coast Guardsmen will also participate.
10:00 am United States Military Band will perform a musical prelude
The Procession sets off at 10:30 am, led by the New York Scottish Pipes and Drums, Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War in period uniforms, and the Veteran Corps of Artillery.
During the solemn ceremony, 23 veterans, heritage and patriotic organizations will lay wreaths at the Monument, including American Legion, Navy League, Daughters of the American Revolution, Sons of the Revolution, Jewish War Veterans, and Montford Point Marines.
