DESCRIPTION:Join us on April 25\, 2026 between 10:00 AM and 1:00 (EDT) for 
 a day observing the flora and fauna of the Forever Wild Bird Sanctuary in 
 Riverside Park! Meet Conservancy staff anytime during the duration of the 
 event at West 120th Street & Riverside Drive\, where they will provide a s
 hort iNaturalist training. Then\, use the app to collect data for the 10th
  Annual City Nature Challenge. This nationwide event harnesses the power o
 f community scientists and gives everyone the chance to contribute to ongo
 ing research. Dont forget your smartphone\, closed-toe shoes\, and long pa

  weather. \nJoin Riverside Park Conservancy\, artist Kenneth Doherty\, and
  Artichoke Dance Company for an afternoon of dance performance and discuss
 ion\, celebrating Earth Week. Dance performances held at 12pm and 2pm\, wi
 th artist talk and presentation of the Conservancys sustainability initiat
 ives in between. Rain date April 26. \nWithin the Waters\, created by Lynn
  Neuman and performed by Artichoke Dance Company\, is staged in conversati
 on with Kenneth Dohertys sculpture The Raft. A lush and dynamic ensemble d
 ance\, Within the Waters reflects on three themes: the realities of climat
 e migration\, the memories that water holds from what has occurred within 
 it\, and the resiliency of communities in the face of disaster. \nAbout Ar
 tichoke Dance Company: Under the direction of Lynn Neuman\, is a national 
 leader in eco-performance productions and projects entertaining\, engaging
 \, and inspiring audiences\, communities and organizations through perform

  and The Raft: Kenneth Doherty is a member of the Art Students League of N
 ew York\, where he has studied with Barney Hodes\, Oscar Garcia\, Marilyn 
 Friedman and John Belardo. Working with Natsuki Takauji and Haksul Lee in 
 the Art Students League of New Yorks Works in Public program\, he has deve
 loped an interest in the narrative potential of figurative art\, and the c
 hallenge of using figurative art to address contemporary issues. He welcom
 es the collaborative opportunity of working with the Artichoke Dance Compa
 ny to bring attention to the threat that rising ocean waters will have on 
 New York City and these environs. \nAbout the Art Students League Works in
  Public: Works in Public\, originally known as Model the Monument\, is a f
 ully-funded program that invites artists to conceive of\, create\, and ins
 tall site-specific sculptures in partnership with League instructors\, Wor
 ks in Public advisors\, and the New York City Department of Parks and Recr
 eation. Sculptures created in the Works in Public program are displayed in

DESCRIPTION:Join us for Nature & Resistance 2026\, a bilingual (Spanish/Eng
 lish) experience in Riverside Park where ecological learning\, cultural pr
 actice\, and community dialogue come together. RSVP here.\nThe event begin
 s with a guided nature walk through the Riverside Park Bird Sanctuary/Fore
 ver Wild area\, highlighting local flora and fauna and inviting participan
 ts to reflect on the stewardship of urban public lands. We then gather for
  an indoor program circle focused on practical ideas for public programmin
 g in parks. \nDuring the program circle\, participants will hear from invi
 ted speakers and take part in a short interactive activity: \n1. Mampujark
  Miriam Sanchez (Comunidad Integradora de Saberes Andinos / CISA) will lea
 d a brief Andean Wind Element ceremony\, offering a grounding moment to se
 t the tone for thoughtful exchange. \n2. Alex Jos Gmez will share how comm
 unity murals and public art can serve as environmental education tools\, s
 upporting respectful behavior in parks regarding waste\, water\, and habit
 at care. Alex will also facilitate Desgranando Historias\, a small-group a
 ctivity in which participants shell corn while discussing and sharing idea
 s for public programs for Indigenous Peoples in urban parks. \n3. Oliver L
 opez will share updates on the Originary Peoples Public Programs in Urban 
 Parks Toolkit\, a developing collective booklet that gathers practical ide
 as and approaches for collaboration with urban parks. \nWeather plan: If r
