 th a diverse array of notables such as jazz musicians Kurt Elling\, Dee De
 e Bridgewater and Cyrille Aime; pop acts Taylor Swift\, David Crosby\, Elv
 is Costello; r&b singers Ne-Yo and Gabriel Garzon-Montano; hip hop artists
  Jidenna and Ryan Leslie; and with the rock band Brass Against\, and house
  music stars; Crystal Waters and CeCe Peniston. \nThis diversity is repres
 ented in The Bad Mothas energetic sound where the American Songbook gets a
  welcome update\, including selections by Michael Jackson or Earth Wind & 
 Fire.  Tenor saxophonist Miles Tucker (Waynes brother) holds a lean mean c
 ounterpoint to Waynes gentle affability on trumpet. Drummer Diego Joaquin 
 Ramirez and bassist Tamir Shmerling provide solid underpinning which accom
 modates a varied cast of pianists\, most notably the gospel-influenced Wil
 lerm Delisfort.  The group was featured in the New York Times for its stea
 dy schedule of street performances during the 2020 shutdown\, representati
 ves of New York Citys infamous grit. \nWayne continues to maintain a dedic
 ated presence in the small clubs of New York City alongside a career which
  makes occasional forays into venues like Madison Square Garden\, The Holl
 ywood Bowl\, and The Tonight Show\, to name a few. As an actor/model he ha

 al\ntraditions of Latin America\n\nDawn Drake & ZapOte is a female Global 
 South ensemble which celebrates women in world music by incorporating Afro
 -Cuban and Brazilian rhythms\, pop and funk into a mix that is meant to ma
 ke you move!  With original lyrics that focus on love\, empathy\, environm
 ental and social justice themes\, the band offers a chance to celebrate li
 fe and create community through shared experience. A genre bender\, ZapOte
  has a unique sound based on Dawns musical influences which draw from Cuba
 n salsa and timba\, Haitian kompa as well as Congolese ndombolo and Nigeri
 an Afro-beat. Youll find some of New Yorks finest female musicians playing
  in this band! \nOriginally from Virginia\, Dawn started playing piano at 
 age five. Her mother was a church organist and singer and North Carolina s
 hag dancer and Dawn grew up listening to everything from Slovenian polka (
 from her fathers side)\, gospel\, funk and classic rock. \nDawn chose to l
 eave Virginia after high school\, heading out in a 1977 Ford Pickup truck 
 to attend college at UC Berkeley on a scholarship and a Pell Grant. Lookin
 g for something beyond her experiences\, she found joy in music\, educatio
 n and learning about other cultures. She spent a year studying abroad in G
 hana\, West Africa through UC Berkeley and started playing percussion ther
 e. \nAfter further travels\, New York City became her home where she found
  a job cocktail waitressing on Bleecker street upon arrival. She quickly b
 egan to pursue writing\, art\, dance and music and landed herself in the e
 clectic NYC music scene. She went on to pursue Afro-Cuban bat (sacred drum
 s of the Yoruba people) and Latin percussion in Cuba and NYC\, as well as 
 samba percussion in Brazil and NYC. She also achieved a Masters degree in 
 Ethnomusicology and an MFA in Composition and Performance from California 
 Institute of the Arts. \nDawn moved to Brooklyn permanently in 2003. Curre
 ntly\, she continues to play electric bass and percussion with artists fro
 m around the globe in addition to leading her band ZapOte. You can find he

 alist and songwriter Julia Rocha-Nava\, alongside Sebastin ngel-Romero (Gu
 itar)\, Moby Lola Irizarry (Congas)\, lee hooper (Flute)\, Jamila Ravel (B
 ass) and Daniela Serna (Percussion). \nChispas debut album\, Somos Medicin
 a\, is a collection of queer love songs for the land. The project has rece
 ived support from the New Music USA Creator Fund and the Brooklyn Arts Cou
 ncils Creative Equations Grant for Justice\, Sustainability\, and Equity a
 nd the 2025 Performing Artist in Residence at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden.

 ting and performing music for many years (including with her rock band\, T
 he Electric Mess)\, but after her sons birth\, she became inspired to writ
 e music for children. \nSummer on the Hudson events are free and open to t
 he public. Seating is limited\, unreserved\, and available on a first-come
