DESCRIPTION:This event has been POSTPONED to SUNDAY\, 4/26 at 12pm\, due to
  weather. \nJoin Riverside Park Conservancy\, artist Kenneth Doherty\, and
  Artichoke Dance Company for an afternoon of dance performance and discuss
 ion\, celebrating Earth Week. Dance performances held at 12pm and 2pm\, wi
 th artist talk and presentation of the Conservancys sustainability initiat
 ives in between. Rain date April 26. \nWithin the Waters\, created by Lynn
  Neuman and performed by Artichoke Dance Company\, is staged in conversati
 on with Kenneth Dohertys sculpture The Raft. A lush and dynamic ensemble d
 ance\, Within the Waters reflects on three themes: the realities of climat
 e migration\, the memories that water holds from what has occurred within 
 it\, and the resiliency of communities in the face of disaster. \nAbout Ar
 tichoke Dance Company: Under the direction of Lynn Neuman\, is a national 
 leader in eco-performance productions and projects entertaining\, engaging
 \, and inspiring audiences\, communities and organizations through perform
 ance and action. From stage productions to immersive performance tours to 
 site inspired spectacles\, Artichoke Dance Company delights and activates

  and The Raft: Kenneth Doherty is a member of the Art Students League of N
 ew York\, where he has studied with Barney Hodes\, Oscar Garcia\, Marilyn 
 Friedman and John Belardo. Working with Natsuki Takauji and Haksul Lee in 
 the Art Students League of New Yorks Works in Public program\, he has deve
 loped an interest in the narrative potential of figurative art\, and the c
 hallenge of using figurative art to address contemporary issues. He welcom
 es the collaborative opportunity of working with the Artichoke Dance Compa
 ny to bring attention to the threat that rising ocean waters will have on 
 New York City and these environs. \nAbout the Art Students League Works in
  Public: Works in Public\, originally known as Model the Monument\, is a f
 ully-funded program that invites artists to conceive of\, create\, and ins
 tall site-specific sculptures in partnership with League instructors\, Wor
 ks in Public advisors\, and the New York City Department of Parks and Recr
 eation. Sculptures created in the Works in Public program are displayed in
  a year-long exhibition at two sites in Riverside Park.
