SUMMARY:Works in Public 2026 Unveiling
DESCRIPTION:The Art Students League of New York and the New York City Depar
tment of Parks & Recreation are proud to present Works in Public 2026\, a
year-long outdoor public art exhibition in Riverside Park. The exhibition
features four new site-specific sculptures by League artists: Alicia Ehni
and Robert Franca in Riverside Park South at 61st Street\, and 145th Stree
t\, celebrating sculptures by Lindsey Francis Jones and Clare Burson in R
iverside Park North at 145th Street. \nSchedule: \n1:45pm ' Meet in Rivers
ide Park North\, 145th St. to unveil the new rosk by Lindsey Francis Jones
and Clare Burson.\n3:00pm ' Board our free shuttle to Riverside Park Sout
h\n3:45pm ' Arrive at Riverside Park South\, 61st St to unveil the new wor
ks by Alicia Ehni and Robert Franca. \nAbout the Art and Artists: \nLinds
ey Francis Jones\, City in Shapes\, City in Fish\nCity in Shapes\, City in
Fish invites viewers into the artists visual language through a cityscape
of abstract shapes and color. Inspired by the craft and community of prin
tmaking\, the work incorporates images of six fish etched onto selected pl
exiglass\, contributed by fellow printmakers and artists: Laurissa Widrick
 \, Felix Bladbjerg\, Kait Waldman\, Stan Overstreet\, Barbara Ganmen\, and
Scarlett Patino. \nClare Burson\, Unearthed.\nUNEARTHED is an installatio
n of three steel forms inspired by the ancient Plain of Jars in Laos. It a
sks us to consider the inevitable and unexpected ways that history imposes
itself on the present. When experienced with its accompanying soundscape\
, UNEARTHED also reminds us that our shared public spaces are nexus points
for an infinite number of narratives that connect individuals and communi
ties across time\, those who lived here before us and those who will come
after us. \nAlicia Ehni\, Balancing \nA Peruvian shaman once told Ehni to
carry a lemon in her purse\, that it brings great harmony in life and in i
nteractions with others. Two fractured pre-Columbian ceramics carry ancien
t coastal knowledge\, opening possibilities to imagine a different future.
Balancing reflects on the fragile relationships between people\, nature\,
and the built environment. \nRobert Franca\, The Chairs\nThe Chairs explo
res family as the foundation through which we understand ourselves and the
world. Seen through a childs perspective\, the chairs embody imagination\
, openness\, and freedom from conventional rules. Their human-like forms s
uggest movement and the ability to change. Ultimately\, the chairs speak t
o the importance of finding balance ' within ourselves\, within families\,
and in navigating the challenges and uncertainties of an ever-changing wo
 rld. \n
