Do I need a permit?
Most events, concerts, organized sports and gatherings of 20 or more in the park require a permit. More info below:

Are there indoor facilities where I can host a party in the park?
Currently, the park house in Hippo Playground at 91st Street is the only facility available for birthday parties, etc. for children. For more information, click here for more information or call 212-870-3070.

What do I do if I find an injured wild animal or bird?

Please call 311 for sick or injured wildlife. For injured birds, call the
Wild Bird Fund at 646-306-2862. If you are concerned about feral cats in the park, please contact: Neighborhood Cats.

Where can I find a place to eat in the Park?

Are there designated quiet areas in the Park?

Yes there are four passive recreation areas in the park where no dogs, no radios and no team sports are allowed.

  • Linda’s Lawn – 66th Street near the river
  • South Lawn – 73rd – 75th Street near Riverside Drive
  • North Lawn – 80th – 82nd Street near Riverside Drive
  • Sakura Park – 122nd Street & Riverside Drive

Skate Park

  • 109th Street on the lower level – Helmet required; skaters must also have a signed waiver on file

Are there parking lots in the park?
For most areas, there is no access to free parking in Riverside Park. Only street parking, where available, or you can park in a private garage. Here are the locations of three parking lots in the park:

  • 97th Street north of tennis courts
  • 148th Street north of Ten Mile River Playground
  • 150th Street west of West Side Highway

  • The Woodlands Restoration area – 108th Street to 116th Street
    One of the few sections reflecting the horticultural history of the area prior to the construction of the park. Some of the oldest, most spectacular trees in the park are found here. This project began in 2006 with the generous support of The Tiffany & Co. Foundation.
  • Mt. Tom – 83rd Street & Riverside Drive
    Rocky hill rumored to have been a favorite spot of author Edgar Allan Poe’s
  • Garden People’s Garden – 91st Street on the Promenade
    Established in Riverside Park in 1981; used as a backdrop in the 1998 film “You’ve Got Mail.”
  • Crabapple Grove – 91st Street across from the Hippo Playground
  • Cherry Walk – 100th – 129th Street along the river
  • Peter Jay Sharp Volunteer House – 107th Street
  • Bird Sanctuary – 116th – 129th Street; Designated “Forever Wild” area
