Seasonal position: 9 month term
Riverside Park Conservancy is the non-profit conservancy that supports the New York City Parks Department in the care and restoration of Riverside Park, one of New York’s flagship parks and a registered Scenic Landmark.
Riverside Park Conservancy is seeking a Grounds & Facilities Technician to join our team. This role involves physically demanding work and close collaboration with groundskeepers, volunteers, and the public. The ideal candidate is positive, flexible, and able to engage effectively with others. This position reports directly to the Park Facilities Supervisor.
Major Tasks & Responsibilities
• Clear leaves and trash from selected pathways and other facilities regularly. Sweep or blow off staircases.
• Pick up litter at riverfront areas and along the greenway.
• Keep greenways clear of brush and overgrowth using hedge trimmers or hand pruners.
• Assist park patrons with wayfinding and other items as required.
• Document and report safety concerns along the greenway.
• Pull weeds, pick up leaves, mow, and edge with string trimmer as directed by supervisor.
• Position includes periodic cleaning of bathroom and indoor gathering spaces, and some work in the ballfield and on the dog runs.
• Shovel snow from staircases and apply salt.
• Perform other assigned duties as required.
Qualifications
• Minimum one year of experience in horticulture, facilities, sports field or golf course maintenance.
• Must have a valid NYS driver’s license
• Schedule for this position is Monday-Friday 7:00 am to 3:30 pm December through March. Schedule changes to 9:00-5:30 Tuesday through Saturday starting in April with some additional afternoon overtime as needs require. Flexibility exists for an earlier work day approximately 2-3 days per week at supervisor/manager’s discretion.
• Familiarity with small engine maintenance and repair and/or irrigation is a plus but not required.
• Required to hold Red Cross CPR and first aid certification at time of hire, or complete certification within 30 days of hire.
• Must be comfortable working around dogs and cyclists. Must be comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions. Must be comfortable working with power tools.
• Must be able to lift 40 pounds with proper tools and work/ maneuver outdoors (in all weather conditions) on the 400-acre property’s often difficult terrain.
Pay Rate: $22 per hour
