At the start of 2022, Riverside Park Conservancy launched a new Conservation and Sustainability Initiative let by a two-pronged Department which focuses on several facets of urban park stewardship:
- managing a brand-new compost compound at 96th Street
- tracking and expanding natural area conservation,
- reducing fossil fuel consumption and waste,
- facilitating public education programs,
- engaging citizen science initiatives and research partnerships,
- participating in city-wide advocacy for park equity and environmental justice
