July 9th:  Falsa
Based in New York City and under the “Falsa” banner, a diverse array of improvisational World musicians rooted in 14th century Sufi music (Indian/Persian classical mysticism similar to Rumi’s elevating poetry) offer experiences that range from Minimalist Meditative to Raga Jazz Fusion to high energy World Improvisation that gets you moving. Through music, Falsa communicates reverence for the most magical aspects of experience that are gifts and not acquisitions, as Sufi music is not about means to ends, but about meaning and transcendence.

July 16: Danaya Band

Aboubacar Dembele, bass player/percussionist son of renowned Malian musician Bamba Dembele, traveled to the United States in 2000 to record music and made his home in New York City.  Danaya Band was founded by Aboubacar in 2017; its body of music is steeped in the energy and rhythms of Malian, Bambara, Mandingo, Afrobeat, Reggae music and more.

July 23: Galipote
While the band takes their name from a mystical folklore creature of the night, Galipote is anything but a nightmarish concoction. In fact, its deft and ease with various Caribbean rhythms and instruments of West Indian folklore, within a rock format that doesn’t shy away from the blues, makes Galipote a unique world beat rock band with a potent, high energy sonic recipe sure to delight even the most jaded of listeners.

Keisha Martin is not known to shy away from unbridled self-expression, using her musical talents to create a soulful and passionate composition for her audiences. Establishing her own spirited, passionate and thoroughly heartfelt presence, the dedicated singer-songwriter’s music allows listeners to live free and vicariously. Her new single, “I Can’t Forget  You” represents a flavorful twist in the artist’s discography, featuring bold and spirited reggae.

July 30: People’s Champs
People’s Champs combines the hottest dance rhythms from West Africa and South America with retro synth tones, crafting them into indie songs with Stevie Wonder-esque lyrics. With their “crazy genre mash ups” (Blakbook), People’s Champs’ truly original sound is equal parts Sharon Jones, tUnE-yArDs, Os Mutantes, William Onyeabor, and Prince. Critics are calling People’s Champs a “New York supergroup” (Lucid Culture) and “Well on their way to becoming NYC’s de facto Funk and Afrobeat experience” (Deli Magazine).

LaFolie Austral unites the vast sonic landscape of South America, then processes it through a contemporary alternative lens. The result is an infectious rhythmic unit that is formed by her unique musical approach. Born in Barranquilla – Colombia, LaFolie Austral enjoys writing music, traveling the world and experimenting with different sounds.

We invite you to join us in reconnecting with nature by participating in a guided Forest Bathing experience. Allow yourself to connect with the park in a way you never have before. The program includes a short, no more than a half-mile walk at a slow pace. Wear comfortable clothing and bring water, snacks, and a towel or cushion for sitting on the ground.
