Riverside Park Conservancy Announces Its Largest-Ever Summer on the Hudson Line-Up Featuring Nearly 400 Free Events

Share
New York City’s beloved annual arts and culture festival will include new offerings across the park, between 59th to 181st Streets. Expanded educational and health & wellness programming in West Harlem and Washington Heights complements the Conservancy’s continued priority to fostering community partnerships.

Summer on the Hudson, a joint program of Riverside Park Conservancy and NYC Parks, will return in full swing on May 1, 2025. Returning for its 23rd year, this outdoor arts and culture festival now features nearly 400 free events and programs at multiple locations along the west side of Manhattan from 59th to 181st Streets, through October.

Live music for all ages will continue throughout the Park this summer.

Since its founding more than two decades ago, Summer on the Hudson has grown from a handful of small events to a major season-long affair that draws thousands of New Yorkers into the park to see local artists, dance, play, learn, explore, and get in shape.

This year, Summer on the Hudson is thrilled to introduce two new exciting events to the line-up in Riverside Park South. Parkgoers can attend Vinyl Nights on July 26 and August 23 for a vibrant, inclusive night of dancing to vintage tunes on vinyl spun by live DJs. Additionally, some of New York’s most exciting comedians will be coming to Pier I (‘eye’) on July 25 and August 29 for the inaugural Riverside Comedy Club, hosted by Nat Townsen (The Tonight Show, Nickelodeon).

Fan-favorite events at Pier I will return in tandem, including Silent Disco, live concerts, game nights and more. In line with the 2025 Pier I Picture Show’s Dynamic Duos theme, featured movies include Dirty Dancing (1987), The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014), and Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid (1969) and other favorites.

In continuation of the Conservancy’s goal to expand programming north of 125th Street, Mat Pilates with Heatwise Studios and a summer walking group led by Conservancy staff will join yoga with Sweet Water Dance & Yoga to the list of health and wellness offerings in the northern sections of Riverside Park and Fort Washington Park. Last year’s featured uptown events also make their return, including a birding walk in Fort Washington Park to celebrate Black Birders Week on May 31. Movies on the Waterfront, a series of outdoor films on the 145th Street Lawn will be featured on Thursdays in August. Coco (2017) will be presented in Spanish on August 14.

Movies on the Waterfront on the 145th Street Lawn will return this August.

The 2025 season also highlights an expanded focus on educational programming for parkgoers of all ages and backgrounds. Conservancy horticulture experts will lead Horticulture Tours and new Nature Explorers workshops for kids to bring an in-depth exploration of the park’s diverse landscape and plants. Huellas de Vida, a bilingual nature tour, will also run once a month, from June to October. Additional featured educational events this year include Locomotive Open House, an exclusive once-a-month peek inside the newly renovated locomotive in Riverside Park South, and City of Water Day on July 12, an interactive seining event led by Hudson River Sloop Clearwater. The season rounds out with Compostalooza on October 11 at the 95th Street Compost Compound. This brand-new festival, organized by the Conservancy’s Sustainability Team, will celebrate the Conservancy’s work with compost and its impact on urban soil with demonstrations, science experiments, and live entertainment.

“Summer on the Hudson offers New Yorkers hundreds of unique, free outdoor activities for all interests and abilities,” said Merritt Birnbaum, President & CEO of Riverside Park Conservancy. “Being able to play, explore, learn, exercise, and have fun right in your local park is fundamental to one’s quality of life in our city. We couldn’t be more excited by the continued growth of our uptown programs and by our new educational experiences that connect people with nature.”

“We’re so excited to kick off the 23rd season of Summer on the Hudson—a celebration of arts, culture, and community that brings our parks to life,” said NYC Parks Commissioner Sue Donoghue. “Thanks to our partnership with Riverside Park Conservancy, New Yorkers can enjoy more than 400 free events spanning six miles of waterfront parkland, from 59th Street to Washington Heights. Whether it’s live music, dance, outdoor movies, or kids’ activities, Summer on the Hudson offers something for everyone to enjoy in the great outdoors.”

Whitney Dearden, Director of Public Programming for Riverside Park Conservancy, is the curator for Summer on the Hudson. “I’m always proud to announce that every Summer on the Hudson season is our largest to date,” she remarked. “We’re thrilled to continue offering perennial favorites while expanding the variety of our uptown programs to provide high-quality arts and culture experiences to all New Yorkers.”

“Clearwater has worked with hundreds of participants over the years with Riverside Park Conservancy and Summer on the Hudson, and we are thrilled to be part of their educational programming,” said Eli Schloss, Tideline Program Director at Hudson River Sloop Clearwater  “The beach in Fort Washington Park offers a great place to get into the river with a fishing net and examine the incredible diversity of NY Harbor and the Hudson River estuary.”.

“We’re beyond excited to bring Vinyl Nights to Summer on the Hudson in beautiful Riverside Park” said Rebecca Lynn, presenter of Vinyl Nights. “We love the views and vibe of the Hudson River—get ready to see the Vinyl Nights DJs throwing down!”

“Our free public programming is designed to provide a space for park patrons of all ages to engage with the local ecology.” said the Conservancy’s Sustainability Team. “Creative place-based events can serve as an entry point to strengthen the connection between people and the land they live on.”

“The largest-ever Summer on the Hudson has something for everyone, whether you’re a lifelong Manhattanite or just visiting. Pairing the beauty of Riverside Park with our local arts and culture scene makes for one of the best summer event calendars in the city,” said Manhattan Borough President Mark Levine. “I’m grateful to the Riverside Park Conservancy for all they do to provide fantastic and free programming all summer long.”

“I am thrilled that, in its 23rd year, Summer on the Hudson continues to deliver an incredible program that grows and evolves each season, bringing new and exciting events to Riverside Park and our neighborhood. From vibrant dance parties to live comedy and dynamic educational offerings, there’s truly something for everyone. As the programming expands further uptown, we’re proud to know that all New Yorkers can experience the joy and enrichment Summer on the Hudson has to offer,” said Council Member Shaun Abreu.

“Summer on the Hudson programs are one of the highlights of a West Side summer and make Riverside Park even more special,” said Council Member Gale A. Brewer. “I’m excited to see what’s new, including more events north of W. 125th Street. Thank you to the Riverside Park Conservancy for bringing the incredible arts and culture event to the West Side year after year.”

“Summer on the Hudson connects Upper Manhattan’s neighborhoods with free community-building activities that draw New Yorkers, young and old, to our beloved green spaces. We are proud of the programming’s growth, and encourage more local partners to get involved in fostering community space so that we can continue to enjoy our seasonal celebration for years to come,” said Council Member Carmen De La Rosa.

Fans are encouraged to follow Summer on the Hudson and the Conservancy’s social media platforms closely for details regarding weather cancellations, new pop-up events, and more.
