History of Dog Run 142
After years of rallying for a dog run in West Harlem, a group of dedicated local volunteers successfully opened Dog Run 142 in June 2016. Their efforts were supported by Riverside Park Conservancy, the NYC Parks Department, Councilman Mark Levine’s office, many local community groups, local businesses, and countless neighbors.
Dog Run 142 and the Conservancy worked together to secure City funding to improve the temporary run, and in 2021, plans were finalized for a full renovation.
In 2025, after 7 years in the making of community-led space improvement, Dog Run 142 was completed! In May 2025, the Dog Run 142 community, NYC Parks, Riverside Park Conservancy, and elected officials celebrated with a ribbon cutting, where many smiling faces and happy paws got to enjoy the new run. Four-legged attendees even received a commemorative Dog Run 142 Opening Day tennis ball!
