Community Composting 101 for Advocates and Supporters
The latest City budget cuts have endangered long-standing community composting programs in New York City. In this workshop, learn about tools to help advocate for community composting in our City and beyond. We’ll discuss the basics of composting, ways community composting differs from other food waste solutions, and approachable strategies to engage with our communities. Come prepared to share your ideas!

About the Speaker:
Lia Lucero, formerly with the LES Ecology Center, has been active in community composting initiatives for nearly a decade. She holds a B.S. in environmental studies from the SUNY College of Environmental Science & Forestry. She received compost training from the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, Earth Matter, and the Compost Research and Education Foundation. She currently serves as a steering committee member for the Community Composter Coalition managed by the Institute for Local Self-Reliance, a network of community composters that is building the movement by connecting early adopters, spreading lessons learned, and inspiring new operations.

About the Series:
Join Riverside Park Conservancy’s Sustainability Team for four lectures led by local activists, environmentalists, educators, and composters. All events are free and open to the public and will include time for a Q&A and discussion.
