Hello, February! With such varied weather in New York over the last couple of weeks, we’ve seen everything from snow and ice along the Hudson River to 50-degree, sunny days. Through it all, we hope you’ve gotten a chance to enjoy the winter beauty of Riverside Park this season.
Read on to learn about the latest Conservancy happenings:
Demanding Investment in NYC Parks

In January, our team turned out to attend a rally, advocating for adequate investment in NYC Parks. We have been fighting for our fair share in the City budget for far too long. Parks are essential to New Yorkers’ lives — continued budget cuts are unacceptable. Learn more about the rally and the campaign from Inside Climate News.
We’re collecting stories from parkgoers — and we need your help! Tell us why parks are important to you at [email protected]. Or, if you’d like to share your story on camera, please reach out. Make an impact with us by being part of the Play Fair coalition’s new Parks Power NYC campaign!
Winter in Riverside: Our Team’s Work

Have you ever wondered what our team is up to in the winter months? Our Director of Horticulture, Jess Kaplan, shares the unique tasks the cold season brings for Conservancy staff. From winter pruning to learning new perspectives from fellow horticultural professionals, our work in the winter prepares the team and Riverside Park for a successful spring and summer. Read more on our website.

Valentine’s Day is coming up soon! Support our year-round horticultural work and show love to your favorite people with a Riverside Bloom symbolic adoption. With your fully tax-deductible donation, your recipient will automatically receive an e-card with a picture of the type of Riverside Park flower that has been dedicated to them and your personal message.
Choose from one of our featured flowers: vernal witch hazels, scarlet beebalms, Virginia bluebells, and oak leaf hydrangeas, all of which bloom in Riverside Park!
Attend a Virtual Lecture on Food Systems

Last summer, our Sustainability team hosted their Rooted Community Series, featuring lectures led by local activists, environmentalists, educators, and composters. We’re excited to share our first virtual lecture, presented by Sycamore May, Director of Sustainability and Communications at Handsome Brook Farms.
Sycamore explores the current state of the food system in the US and provides insights into where it is headed. Click here to watch the video — and stay tuned for more virtual lectures to come throughout the year.
