New 97th Street Park Entrance

Getting into Riverside Park at 97th Street is now easier and more welcoming for everyone.

Designed by Starr Whitehouse Landscape Architects, the updated entrance reflects a careful balance of accessibility, durability, and timeless park character to improve how people move through and experience the Park.

The redesigned entrance preserves its familiar symmetrical layout while introducing beautifully crafted new bluestone and granite staircases alongside a new ADA-compliant ramp, thoughtfully woven into the surrounding landscape. A new paved path to the south further improves circulation, creating smoother access for cyclists and park maintenance vehicles.

The project was completed in coordination with ongoing updates to Dinosaur Playground, ensuring alignment across nearby improvements. As a result, longstanding drainage issues have been resolved, strengthening the site’s resilience and helping protect it for years to come. These improvements make the 97th Street entrance more comfortable, functional, and enjoyable whether arriving on foot, by bike, or as part of daily park life!
