Riverside Blooms

A gift that grows

Looking for a wonderful way to honor a special someone on Mother’s Day or Father’s Day; to celebrate a birthday or anniversary; or to recognize an important milestone? Give a gift to support the planting of beautiful flowers in Riverside Park!

Once you make your donation, we will send an e-card to your recipient with a picture of the type of Riverside Park flower that has been dedicated to them, a notification of your gift and your personal message. We have featured flowers that bloom throughout the Park, so no matter where your favorite spot is, you and your recipient will be able to appreciate the blossoms.

Please note: Specific locations for plantings will not be identified and no plaques will be placed in the Park. The flowers will bloom as early, late and often as Mother Nature allows.

Witch hazel flowers

Witch Hazel

With mentions in folklore and an important ingredient in skincare products, these native shrubs have more to offer than just their spider-like blooms in winter. The largest group in Riverside Park is in Robert’s Garden near 116th Street. Several others can be seen at the tunnels at 148th Street and in Neufeld Playground at 76th Street.

Bee balm flowers

Scarlet Beebalm

This tubular flower is a favorite of hummingbirds, bees and butterflies. Blooms start in late June until late August adding beautiful pops of color. Can be found in the Park between 116th Street and 120th Street.

Bluebell flowers

Virginia Bluebell

The sight of these blooms means spring has arrived! Colors change from a pink bud to deep blue flower back to pink as they age. The April blooms are well visited by pollinators for early season nectar. This is considered to be one of the most unique and beautiful species of spring ephemerals.

Hydrangea flowers

Oak Leaf Hydrangea

Blooms mid-summer through first frost. The dried flowers add texture and interest in the winter months. The large lobed leaves that resemble oak leaves give this native shrub its name. Can be seen abundantly throughout the Park.
