In July, the Conservancy unveiled the Riverside Info Center, a new hub for outreach and education in the park. Located on the Greenway at 96th Street to the south of the Red Clay Courts, this “eco container” is a solar-powered space that functions both as an informational visitor center and an essential cooling station and remote office for the Conservancy’s field staff.
A pilot for delivering services to park visitors, the Conservancy hopes that its new Center can serve as a model for other parks for a flexible, grid-independent solution to the need for secure indoor space. Completely temporary, self-powered and self-contained, the new “eco container” has a solar array and battery storage that powers a fully-insulated interior space with a heating and cooling system, lights, refrigerator and 20×10 ft interior that can be adapted for a variety of uses including as a remote field office, concessions site, and education and programming location.
During the first summer pilot, the Riverside Info Center is open on evenings and weekends and is focused on community engagement, providing information to park goers and helping to connect visitors to the Conservancy’s mission and sustainability initiatives in the Park.
Currently, visitors can stop by for directions and to learn more about the Conservancy and our free Summer on the Hudson events happening throughout the park. Cold water is available for purchase in aluminum bottles, and beginning in August, the Center will also stock Riverside Park and Goatham souvenirs and apparel.
Stop by and say hello!
