Cherry Blossoms Bloom in Riverside Park

Our six miles of parkland have some of the best spots to see cherry blossoms in New York City! With multiple species blooming across the Park, now’s the perfect time to enjoy their beauty.

In our recent blog, Margaret Bracken, Landscape Architect at NYC Parks and Conservancy Chief of Design & Construction, shares her favorite spots around Riverside to see these stunning blooms. As she puts it, “[It’s] one of the first signs the long winter is over, and spring is on the way.” Check out the blog post to learn more about the cherry blossoms and plan your perfect spring day with our blossom map.

Celebrate the Grand Opening of Dog Run 142!

Canine friends of DR142 test out the new run and give it 4 paws up.

After 7 years in the making of community-led space improvement, Dog Run 142 is finally complete and ready for pups to get out and play! We can’t wait to celebrate this beautiful new space and the dedicated neighbors who have been part of the work and advocacy to make it happen.

Fields Get a Major Upgrade!

Just in time for the spring season, the Conservancy and NYC Parks completed major upgrades to two athletic fields!

The athletic fields between 101 and 108th Street are hugely popular spaces where thousands of parkgoers come to play soccer, baseball, softball, and other sports. But the original field surface (installed in 2006-2008) was badly damaged and desperately needed to be replaced.

The Conservancy secured funding from NYS Senator Brad Hoylman-Sigal, NYS Assemblymember O’Donnell, and the West Side Soccer League to fully replace the turf at 101st Street with a new, high-quality, state-of-the-art playing field that is safe, springy, and beautiful.

This project reduced overall costs by piggybacking on NYC Parks’ simultaneous capital investment to replace the turf on the nearby 107-108th Street field. By working in partnership, we were able to achieve a great result for the Park: two new fields at one time, for less money.

But there’s more to come! We’re still adding the finishing touches to the fields with painted lines, and later this year, we’ll be undertaking additional repairs to the track and surrounding area – stay tuned!
